Patna: Former Bihar deputy CM and BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi on Monday dismissed allegations of political vendetta against RJD president Lalu Prasad. On Modi's own petition, the Patna High Court had ordered a CBI probe into the fodder scam. A CBI court in Ranchi has sentenced Lalu to five years in jail in another scam-related case and imposed a penalty of Rs 60 lakh on him. Modi, a BJP leader who has been in the news for his revelations against Lalu Prasad and his family, also reinforced CM Nitish Kumar's argument that many people who accused Lalu of corruption are now close associates of him. Sushil tweeted, "Lalu Prasad's conviction in the 5th fodder scam case is no surprise, but the surprise is that the persons like Shivanand Tiwari, Vrushin Patel, Prem Chand Mishra who had filed a complaint in the fodder scam later retaliated and met Lalu Prasad and those who were politically defending corruption started giving arguments." At the same time, he said, 'These mischievous people and the Rashtriya Janata Dal repeatedly accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of implicating Lalu Prasad. These persons had faith in the judiciary only when Lalu Prasad got bail.' Sushil Modi said, 'When the first charge sheet was filed against the then CM Lalu Prasad in the 1996 fodder scam case, there was a Deve Gowda government at the centre with the support of the Congress, not the Bharatiya Janata Party.' He said, 'Even when Lalu Prasad was convicted for the first time, in this case, there was the UPA government led by Manmohan Singh, not the Bharatiya Janata Party (at the Centre). The court and the judge do not belong to any party, yet the Rashtriya Janata Dal kept telling a lie again and again.' The BJP leader said, "If Lalu Prasad was implicated, then why did the Congress, which ruled at the Center from 2004 to 2014, not give a clean chit to Lalu Prasad." He said, 'Lalu Prasad's conviction and fine in all the five cases is ultimately a victory of justice, but I am personally sad that the Rashtriya Janata Dal chief had to go to jail at this age.'
