New Delhi: The Central Government has given a big relief to the poor of the country facing the brunt of the second wave of the corona epidemic. The government has announced a free ration of 5 kg per capita in the months of May and June to 80 crores of poor people of the country. The Union Cabinet on Wednesday decided to provide this facility to 79.88 crores poor under the National Food Security Act. The quantity of wheat and rice to be allocated to the States under the scheme. A decision in this regard will be taken by the Department of Food and Public Distribution. At the same time, a decision on extending the scheme will also be taken by the Department. It may be decided to extend the scheme on situations like lockdown to deal with corona, worsening monsoon conditions. According to an estimate, a total of 80 lakh Metric Tonnes of the ration can be distributed in the country by the Central Government in May and June. In a cabinet meeting led by PM Narendra Modi, it has been decided that no poor should face a shortage of rations amid restrictions during the crisis period of the corona epidemic.
