Md Zubair in 14-day judicial custody, hearing in SC tomorrow

New Delhi: AltNews co-founder Mohammed Zubair's troubles are not taking the name of being less. On Thursday, July 7, Zubair was produced before a Sitapur court for allegedly inciting religious sentiments through his tweet. The court remanded Zubair to 14-day judicial custody. The Supreme Court has agreed to hear his plea tomorrow after challenging the Allahabad High Court's order refusing to quash the FIR lodged against him.

Mohammed Zubair was arrested by the Delhi Police on Monday, June 27, on charges of hurting religious sentiments and inciting riots. After his arrest, he has been produced before a Delhi court. The court had rejected the bail application of Mohammed Zubair while granting one-day custody to the Delhi Police. After this, he was first sent to judicial custody for 4 days and now the custody has been extended to 14 days again.

Mohammed Zubair had on Thursday moved the Supreme Court to quash the bail and FIR before his arrest in Sitapur, UP. Zubair's lawyer Colin Gonsalves has moved the Supreme Court against the Allahabad High Court's Decision to refuse to quash the FIR on June 13. Gonsalves said Zubair was receiving death threats and had real concerns about his safety. The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the petition on Friday.
