Mumbai: In the country, many cases are coming out in the past, in the meantime, the Mumbai Crime Branch has uncovered a racket smuggling of red sandalwood. The crime branch team has detained four persons from Mumbai with red sandals worth about Rs 1.78 crore. Red sanders are also known as ract sandalwood. This rare wood is found only in the jungles of the Rayalaseema region of South India. The same wood is used to make medicines and make artifacts and furniture, which are very rare and very expensive. In recent years, many cases of the smuggling of red sandalwood have been reported in countries of the Middle East, Europe, and China. Last 3 April, officers of Unit 5 of the Mumbai Crime Branch received the complaint that a large consignment of Red Sanders was being taken from Sion-Mahink Road in Dharavi. On the basis of this information, the team of crime branch laid a trap there. Mohini Lokhande, Senior Police Inspector of Unit 5, identified a tempo running at high speed with Red Sanders by chance. Subsequently, the informants came to know that the tempo unloaded red sandalwood in a warehouse on Sahar Road, Andheri. On receiving the news, the crime branch team raided the warehouse and seized 1779.585 kilograms of red sanders meaning red sandalwood from there. Also, four criminals were detained there. Those who are being questioned further.
