“My eldest son Manet will be one of PM candidates”: Cambodian PM

Cambodia: Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen said on Thursday that his eldest son Hun Manet will be one of the prime ministerial candidates.

According to sources, Hun Sen, 69, stated he would stay in power until 2030, after which he would pick Manet as a prime ministerial candidate in general elections.

"I am pleased to announce today that Hun Manet will be one of the prime ministerial candidates, and I completely endorse him for this position," he said during a speech carried live on Cambodia's National Television during the opening of road infrastructure in southwestern Preah Sihanouk province.

Manet, 44, is now a member of the ruling Cambodian People's Party's Permanent Committee. He is also the commander of the Royal Cambodian Army and the deputy commander-in-chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces.
