New Delhi: A historic event has taken place before the commencement of the seventh session in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. In fact, for the first time 58 years after the formation of the state, the national anthem has been announced before the commencement of the session in the Vidhan Sabha. It is said that the seventh session of the 13th Assembly in Nagaland started on 12 February with the national anthem. Nagaland speaker Sharingain Longkumer has said that it was his decision to play the national anthem in the assembly. At the same time, permission was sought from the government headed by CM Neiphiu Rio. He also says that 'this time we wanted to start a new program to welcome the Governor in the Vidhan Sabha. Because he is the constitutional head, his reception always begins with the national anthem.' Sharingain Longkumer has stated that he wants to introduce a new belief, in which whenever the Governor gives his address, it can be made a practice to be adopted in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. According to Longkumer, 'Ever since I became a part of the 13th House, I noticed this deficiency, and when I became the Speaker, I took the decision in consultation with the government headed by the Chief Minister.' Nagaland speaker Sharingain Longkumer was elected to the assembly in the by-election from Anglenden in 2019. He was elected as a member of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party. The Nagaland region was formed on December 1, 1963. After this, assembly elections were held for the first time in January 1964. Subsequently, the first assembly was formed on 11 February. Even after so many years of assembly and state formation, the national anthem was not heard in Nagaland.
