Nagaland, Meghalaya, Tripura Poll schedule to announce today

NEW DELHI: The Election Commission is  all set to announce the schedule for Assembly elections in Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura today, January 18.

Today afternoon, Election Commission would hold a press conference and make the announcement.

Assemblies in Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Tripura must be reconstituted before their five-year terms expire on March 12, March 15, and March 22, respectively.

A full delegation from the EC had already visited the states to assess their readiness for the election and speak with party representatives while also assessing security measures.

Also, it had met the polling officials and held a separate meeting on security arrangements with the police heads. The poll panel team also met with members of political parties to discuss holding free and impartial elections.

The tenure of the current Nagaland Legislative Assembly is scheduled to end on March 12.  Meghalaya Legislative Assembly tenure is scheduled to end on March 15. The Tripura Assembly is scheduled to end on March 22.
