New Delhi: Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu expressed disappointment on Monday over the lack of progress in resolving the stalemate over the suspension of 12 House members on the first day of the ongoing Winter Session. He expressed his displeasure with the loud scenes in the House during the Zero Hour and urged discipline and decorum. The uproar began after V Muraleedharan, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, briefed Naidu on the meeting between the Centre and the leaders of five opposition parties this morning to resolve the stalemate over the suspension issue. Muraleedharan explained that the Centre waited for the opposition leaders to attend the meeting, but they did not show up. Naidu then recalled that he had adjourned the House for the day last Friday after urging both sides to sit down and discuss the matter in order for the House to resume normal operations, "but was disappointed over the lack of progress as reported to him by the Minister." He went on to say that his top priority is the House's operation, as well as "discipline, decorum, decency, debate, discussion, and decision." With the commotion in the House continuing, Naidu adjourned the House until 2:00 p.m. Following the first adjournment, Pralhad Joshi, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, and Piyush Goyal, the Leader of the House, met with Naidu. Later, Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge and Jairam Ramesh met with the RS Chairman and provided feedback on the cancelled meeting.
