A sad news is coming out from the Bollywood world. Popular filmmaker Kumar Sahni has passed away. Kumar, 83, was suffering from age-related ailments. On February 18, Kumar Sahni was admitted to AMRI hospital in Dhakuria, West Bengal. According to hospital officials, his condition had started worsening in the last few days. He was suffering from lower respiratory tract infection, hypertension and sepsis. He was kept in ICU. Instead of improving, his condition was worsening. Then he breathed his last at around 10.25 pm on Saturday night. Kumar Sahni, a disciple of popular director Hrithik Ghatak, was born in 1940. He did film studies from Pune Film Institute (FTII). He had the opportunity to intern under the famous French director Robert Bresson. Sahni had achieved many successes throughout his career. He received the Filmfare Critics Awards for Best Film in 1972, 1990 and 1991. For his contribution to the world of cinema, Kumar Sahni received the Rotterdam International Film Festival- FIPRESCI Award in 1990 and the Prince Claus Award in 1998. Kumar Sahni had directed films like Maya Darpan, Tarang, Kasba, Khayal Gatha, Chaar Adhyay. He also made many short films. No project of his was seen since 2004. He won the National Award for the films Maya Darpan, Tarang and the documentary Bhavantarana. Sahni's first feature film was Maya Darpan. Kumar Sahni was not only a director but also an educator and writer. Fans are saddened by his demise. His departure has given a big shock to the film industry. The filmmaker may not be among us today, but he will always be remembered for his work.
