New Delhi: There have been frequent questions about women's safety after the Hathras gangrape case. Several cases have also been registered from other states. However, what is the real position on this heinous crime in the country? It cannot be understood without data, nor can a case be guessed which government has failed to provide security to women. Recently, the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has released a report titled 'Crime in India' including statistics on its website ncrb.gov.in. The crimes against women have been divided into several categories, state-wise. As per the list released by NCRB, 30,641 cases of rape were reported in India in the year 2019. The number of rape victims is 30868. The report says that in 94% of the cases, the accused were acquaintance of victims. According to the list, most of the rape incidents were reported in Rajasthan. Last year, 5997 cases were registered there. That is, the daily average was seen to be 16 daily rape incidents in the state. As per the list, the number of rape victims in the state is 6051. Not only that, the crime rate per lakh population in the state is 15.9.
