NEC member Air Marshal AK Gogoi meets with NECBDC officials to discuss bamboo development

Under DoNER, the North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council proposes the Destination Northeast Festival.

Air Marshal Anjan Kumar Gogoi of the North Eastern Council (NEC) paid a visit to the North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council (NECBDC) headquarters in Guwahati. During his visit, Air Marshal Gogoi discussed the growth of the bamboo industry in depth with Dr. Shailendra Chaudhari, Managing Director, NECBDC, and other personnel.

Under the North Eastern Council (NEC), Shillong, under the Ministry of DoNER, the North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council (NECBDC) invests its creativity and resources in talent scouting, training, technology sourcing, and market linkage in order to give the age-old bamboo sector a new lease on life.

"With the fast-paced changes in the global marketplace in mind, we prioritise contemporizing the traditional presentational aesthetics of bamboo end products," the DoNER Ministry said in a statement. During his visit to the North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council (NECBDC) headquarters, Dr. Shailendra Chaudhari briefed Air Marshal Anjan Kumar Gogoi on the preparations being made by NECBDC for the forthcoming Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Destination North East Festival.

The festival is scheduled to take place in Kalakshetra in Guwahati from January 15 to 21, 2022. The federal government has made a number of steps to promote the growth of the bamboo industry in the Northeast. Dr. Jitendra Singh, DoNER minister, launched a bamboo treatment plant at the North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council (NECBDC) at Byrnihat, near Guwahati, in February of this year.

The National Bamboo Mission (NBM) and the North Eastern Council are funding the plant, which uses a vacuum-pressure-impregnation technology (NEC). North Eastern Council member Air Marshal Anjan Kumar Gogoi, NECBDC managing director Dr Shailendra Chaudhari, and NEC advisor (BIT) R Lalrodingi attended the opening event.

Union DoNER Minister Singh praised the NEC, NECBDC, and NECBDC's Dr Chaudhari for their contributions.
