Neeraj Chopra honoured with Padma Shri award

Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra was on Monday honoured with the Padma Shri, the country's fourth-highest civilian honour. Chopra, a 24-year-old javelin thrower, has been conferred with the honour by President Ram Nath Kovind at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Badminton player Pramod Bhagat, who won a gold medal at the Paralympic Games, has also been conferred the honour along with Chopra.  

Chopra had won India its first Olympic gold in the track and field event at the Tokyo Olympics. He became the second Indian after Abhinav Bindra to win a gold in the individual event. Bhagat is the first Indian to win gold in para-badminton. He had won the yellow medal in the men's singles SL3 category.
