Nepal's FM to visit China Amid China, Taiwan tension

Nepal's Foreign Ministry announced on Friday that amidst  rising tension between China and Taiwan after the visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Nepal's Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka is visiting China from August 9-11,

Dr. Khadka will be in China from August 9 to August 11 at the invitation of Wang Yi, a member of the Chinese State Council and the Foreign Minister.

On August 10 in Qingdao, China, the two Ministers will lead their respective delegations in bilateral discussions. According to the announcement, Wang will hold a banquet in honour of Khadka and the delegation members.

Days prior to the visit, Hou Yanqi, the Chinese ambassador to Nepal, released a statement in Kathmandu denouncing Pelosi's trip to Taiwan as a grave breach of the one-China principle and praising Nepal's adherence to the policy.

We believe Nepal will continue to uphold the one-China concept, comprehend and support China's lawful and reasonable position, and collaborate with China to safeguard each other's territorial integrity, security, and sovereignty. "China is very grateful for Nepal's steadfast adherence to the one-China policy and resistance to "Taiwan Independence." 

It serves as the political foundation of relations between China and Nepal. We are certain that Nepal's government and people would uphold the one-China concept, comprehend and support China's rightful and reasonable position, and collaborate with China to safeguard each other's sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity "The ambassador said.
