BJ Nishant Shetty on Saturday broke the record of Srinivasa Gowda, popularly known as Kambala's Usain Bolt, by covering a distance of 8.36m with a pair of buffaloes in a competition in Dakshina Kannada. Gowda has managed to set a record by completing the race in 8.78 seconds at Satya Dharma Jodukere Kambala, Kakepadavu in the district last year. Nishant Shetty, 30, put on a stellar performance to win the quarterfinal race at Venur Paramuda Surya Chandra Jodukere Kambala. This event was of 125 meters and Nishant Shetty has completed this distance in 10.44 seconds. The racing tracks of Kambala events are of different lengths but the time taken to cover the distance of 100 meters has been registered for the record. According to the news, 151 pairs of buffaloes took part in Venur Kambala. Kambala is an annual buffalo race held in the paddy fields of Tulunadu in coastal Karnataka.
