Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a woman doctor was attacked by stray dogs at the government chest hospital in Irragadda here. She was going to the ward around 2 am on Tuesday. When she was 500 metres between the duty medical officers' (DMO) building and the ward, 7-10 dogs attacked the doctor. The person sitting there to take a body present there ran and rescued the doctor. However, by then the dogs bit her entire leg and thighs. A hospital employee said, "We heard a lot of commotion and rushed to the spot after the doctor was rescued. After the incident, the doctor was so shocked that she could not speak anything with her mouth. It would have been difficult to stop the incident if the people waiting to receive the body were not there. The employees said that the hospital complex is spread on about 60 acres of land without fencing. It is very dangerous for patients and doctors to walk alone on the hospital premises. It is extremely common for dogs to roam at night within the premises. A PG doctor said that carrying food is a hassle. It is very dangerous and scary to go out anywhere on campus. PG doctors who have to go to the ward are now so scared that most are not ready to go on night duty. At the same time, the superintendent of the hospital, Dr Mehboob Khan said that we are trying our best to control the dog menace. The Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has been making all efforts to catch stray dogs for the past 3-4 months.
