Odisha: Corona vaccine to be given in the state without identity cards

The Corona epidemic has wreaked havoc in every corner of the country and Odisha on Wednesday reported 10,982 new cases of corona infection and 17 infected people have lost their lives. This was stated by a health department official. Meanwhile, the State Government has decided to impose anti-corona vaccine on persons who are at a higher risk of infection but do not have any identity card.

Additional Chief Secretary, Health PK Mohapatra said that such persons cannot be deprived of vaccine due to lack of Identity Cards. "Such sensitive persons cannot be prohibited from vaccination in case of non-availability of Identity Cards. These include nomadic people, prisoners, people living in mental health centres, people living in old age homes, beggars, etc. ’’

The new cases came to light after examining 49,191 samples on Tuesday. The rate of infection (Test Positivity Rate or TPR) after examination here is 22. It is 32 per cent. TPR has remained more than 20 per cent in the state since Friday. 98,230 infected persons are currently undergoing treatment in the state. The official said a total of 5,65,648 cases of infection have been reported so far in Odisha and 2,232 persons have died. Out of the new cases, 6,149 cases were reported from separate habitation centres while 4,833 cases were of people exposed to infected persons. The highest number of 1,539 new cases are from Khurda district. Subsequently, 964 new cases have been reported in Sundergarh, 885 in Cuttack, 539 in Angul and 454 in Sambalpur. There have been 3,48,421 new cases of corona virus infection in the country.
