Odisha: The first death in Odisha owing to the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 was confirmed by the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday. Dr Snehalata Sahu, CDMO of Balangir, confirmed the first Omicron death in Odisha. A cerebral stroke had claimed the life of the deceased, a 50-year-old woman. She was admitted to Burla Medical College after testing positive for COVID. On December 27, 2021, she passed away. Her DNA was taken and submitted to be sequenced. The test result was Omicron positive, according to the report, which came after her death. Dr. Sahu went on to say that once Omicron's death was detected, the district administration and the health department raced to her hometown of Agalpur to conduct contact tracing. The contacts are undergoing more testing.
