Omicron: Kerala reports 45 new cases, bringing the total Omicron to 152

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala's state government reported 45 new Omicron infections on Sunday, bringing the overall number of cases to 152. Nine cases were from high-risk nations, 32 were from low-risk countries, and four were acquired through contact.

Meanwhile, India's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare recorded 27,553 new COVID-19 cases and 284 deaths in the last 24 hours. Earlier in the day, Kerala Health Minister Veena George said in an official statement that COVID-19 immunisation for children aged 15 to 18 years will commence on January 3.

According to the government, 1,525 people have been infected with Omicron, which has spread to 23 states. With 460 cases, Maharashtra is the worst-affected state, followed by Delhi with 351.

The United Kingdom, various European nations, South Africa, Brazil, Botswana, China, Ghana, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Hong Kong, and Israel are currently on the list of "at-risk" countries for the Covid-19 Omicron variant. Kerala reported 2,802 new COVID-19 cases and 12 deaths on Sunday, according to a statement from the state administration.
