New Delhi: On Thursday, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will host a conference with state officials on airport screening and surveillance, which will include APHOs and Port Health Officials (PHOs). This comes amid growing fears about a new COVID-19 strain known as 'Omicron,' which has been detected in several nations. Meanwhile, Maharashtra's first Omicron variant patient, who lives in Thane district, was released from a hospital on Wednesday after testing negative for the virus. In the latter week of November, the patient, a 33-year-old marine engineer from the Kalyan Dombivli municipal region, came at the Delhi airport through Dubai from South Africa. On November 24, he boarded the aeroplane from South Africa. His RT-PCR test was performed upon his arrival at the New Delhi airport. By the time he arrived in Mumbai, the Delhi airport authorities had notified him that he had tested positive for COVID-19. His swab samples were then sent to Maharashtra health officials for genome sequencing, and the test results later showed that he was carrying the Omicron strain. The man began his service on a private ship in April of this year and has been on the high seas ever since. He had not yet received a COVID-19 vaccination.
