On an electric motorway, from Delhi to Jaipur? the test run begins

The National Highway for Electric Vehicles (NHEV) has officially begun a tech trial run of electric vehicles on the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway as part of the Ease of Doing Business initiative (EoDB). The tech test, which began at India Gate's Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, will go for a month. The goal of this endeavour is to help the NHEV determine whether the EV infrastructure along the 270-km highway is economically feasible.

The Delhi-Jaipur route will be ready for EVs and available to the public by March 2023 following a successful tech trail run. The longest trial run will primarily concentrate on the commercialization and economic viability along the roadway. The viability of EVs from a technological, economic, environmental, and social standpoint will also be investigated. This test run will determine whether EVs and their supporting infrastructure are practical for the general public and will help iron out any kinks. Abhijeet Sinha, Program Director, NHEV, stated that EVs must become a common man's car for India to achieve its goal of Carbon neutrality by 2070.

Last year, NHEV carried out the first stage of this technological testing run between Delhi and Agra on the Yamuna Expressway. The technical viability of the EV infrastructure on the highway was examined in the previous trail.

The one-month trial run, which will cover all aspects of EV operation on roads, will be carried out in collaboration with the NueGo electric mobility coach from NHEV partner, GreenCell Mobility.

The NHEV will then provide the government with a comprehensive report that includes findings and suggestions from the tech trial run. Nitin Gadkari, Union Transport Minister, will research this in order to incorporate AHEM into NHAI when developing upcoming highways. Five thousand kilometres of conventional highways will be converted into electric highways using the knowledge and lessons learned from these tech-trial runs.
