On Durand Line, Pakistan and Afghanistan will form a border committee

ISLAMABAD:  Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to form a high-level committee to address the recently resurfaced conflict over the Durand line, which has pitted the Taliban against Pakistani border security forces.

During Pakistan's National Security Advisor (NSA) Moeed Yusuf's recent two-day visit to Kabul, the decision to constitute the committee was made. Durand Line remained a major topic of discussion during high-level meetings with Taliban leaders.

Afghanistan's acting Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Abdul Salam Hanafi and acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi met with Pakistan's NSA, who also heads the Afghanistan Inter-Ministerial Coordination Cell (AICC). The current situation in Afghanistan and the improvement of bilateral relations between the two countries were discussed by both parties.

"Both sides agreed to establish a national-level coordination mechanism to improve border crossing point facilitation and to expedite existing negotiations to finalise a new trade agreement," said Mansoor K.
