New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha was adjourned until Monday at noon, after opposition parties raised a commotion over rising petroleum prices and a national strike by Indian labour unions. The Rajya Sabha was adjourned shortly after the Rajya Sabha Chairman rejected notices issued by many Opposition members requesting a full debate of these issues under Rule 267. "I have rejected the notices," the Chairman stated, adding that the issue brought by the Opposition members might be reviewed later in the day. The Chairman delayed the House until noon because the Opposition members were standing on their seats and causing a commotion in the chamber. The Upper House was also adjourned numerous times last week due to rising petroleum prices. Members of a coalition of opposition parties, including the Trinamool Congress and the Congress, have filed notifications calling for a meeting to discuss soaring fuel prices and a national strike by labour unions across the country. Ironically, Fuel prices in India have been raised for the first time in four months. Petrol and diesel prices were raised for the sixth time in March on Monday, resulting in increases of Rs 4 and Rs 4.10 per litre, respectively, since Tuesday. On Monday, petrol and diesel in Delhi were sold for Rs 99.11 per litre and Rs 90.42 per litre, respectively, after a 30 paise and 35 paise spike. ‘Edible oil prices have shot up across world’, Goyal inform to Rajya Sabha BJP MPs cry in Rajya Sabha referring to Birbhum violence, say- Impose President's rule in Bengal 'We stand for peace,' Jaishankar tells Rajya Sabha on Ukraine conflict
