Over 70 pc of Covid cases in Telangana may be Omicron

HYDERABAD: According to a top health official, more than 70 percent  of Covid-19 cases found in Telangana may be cases of Omicron, as the new strain has already spread throughout the population.

"Omicron is already a member of the group. More than 70 percent , according to our calculations, are Omicron cases. We won't be able to sequence everyone's genome "Dr. G. Srinivasa Rao, director of public health and family welfare, stated.

According to the source, a larger increase in cases in Telangana is expected following the Sankranti celebration this month. The number of cases surged with the New Year, with Greater Hyderabad reporting the highest number of illnesses.  During the previous five days, the number of cases in the state has increased by fourfold. The state recorded 1,520 new infections on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Telangana reported 1,052 additional cases. The state's Covid tally has topped 1,000 for the first time in over six months. Positive attitudes account for more than 3 percent  of the population.

People should seek medical attention rather than self-medicate, according to the head of public health. He reiterated that the department is prepared to deal with the third wave, saying that two crore Covid testing kits and over a crore home isolation kits are on the way.
