Chidambaram raises questions on Kanpur encounter, sharp attack on Yogi government

New Delhi: The case of the murder of eight policemen by attacking a police team when they went to catch a criminal in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, has started taking political colour now. For this, former Union Minister and Congress veteran P Chidambaram have questioned the Yogi government.

Former Home Minister P. Chidambaram has said that Uttar Pradesh is backward in every respect and for this those people who have been ruling here for the past many years are responsible. P. Chidambaram tweeted from his official Twitter handle, "UP is so backward in every respect that those who rule UP should be beheaded with shame. The Congress was last in government in UP in 1985–1989, 30 years ago. BJP cannot blame the Congress and now they are thinking who can be blamed?"

In another tweet, a senior Congress leader wrote, "It is hard to believe that a trained police force will go after sunset to arrest a notorious criminal. The tragedy was foreseen. I express my condolences to the families of the victims."
