Pakistan attempts to intervene in India-China standoff

Amid ongoing border standoff between India and China in the Dokalam area in the Sikkim Sector, Pakistan’s high commissioner to India Abdul Basit met the Chinese ambassador to India Luo Zhaohui on Wednesday.

While the meeting is evidently seen as Pakistan’s attempted to intervene, there is no clarity on what transpired between the two.

The significance of the meeting increments as China is actively drumming the international community on the ongoing stand-off. On 18 July, it briefed foreign diplomats in Beijing and conveyed that its troops will not wait for an indefinite period and that their patience may run out soon.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said many foreign diplomatic missions expressed 'shock' on 'Indian troops' illegal trespass'. Besides that, Chinese embassy was actively engaged the Indian public in expounding Beijing's position.

Meanwhile National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval will visit China next week to take part in the BRICS meet. He is expected to open up the diplomatic channels to find a solution to the five-week old standoff at Doklam.
