Islamabad: On the occasion of his birthday on 8 July, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly told while talking to the YouTube channel that the Asia Cup 2020 has been canceled, after which now the statement of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was revealed. PCB's media director Samiul Hasan Burney said on Thursday that Ganguly's claim had no validity. The final decision on the entire issue can only be taken by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). However, no reason was given by BCCI Chief Sourav Ganguly for canceling the tournament to be held in September. The PCB stated that the statement made by Ganguly would not affect the preparation and procedures of the tournament. It is necessary to mention here that the Chairman of ACC is Najmul Hasan of Bangladesh. This is not the first time that India and Pakistan have come face to face with the Asia Cup. This 15th edition of the tournament was first to be played in Pakistan, but after India's refusal to have it made in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), there was speculation. The BCCI had said that if the tournament is held at a neutral venue, then it has no problem with Pakistan hosting the Asia Cup.
