Pakistan: Plea filed against Army chief for being Ahmadi Muslim

After the political stir, questions are being raised in Pakistan about the religion of the military chief General Qamar Ahmed Bajwa. A petition has been filed in the court against Bajwa stating that Bajwa  is holding the highest military post of Pakistan despite being an Ahmadi  Muslim. In the Peshawar High Court, former Major Khalid Shah has filed a petition alleging that Bajwa belongs to the Qadian community.

The petition, filed by former Major Khalid Shah in Peshawar High Court, alleged that Bajwa belongs to Qadiani community. Qadianis also known as Ahmadi Muslims. In Pakistan, Ahmadiyya Muslims have been declared as non-Muslims. It is not yet known why this controversy has come to light when Bajwa has completed a long time in the army and his one term as Pakistan's military chief.

According to the media report, former ISI DG Rizwan Akhtar is also named in the petition. He is accused of not performing his duty as a Muslim. The petition said that Rizwan did not tell the government that Bajwa was not related to Muslim religion. The government led by Imran Khan has extended Bajwa's term for three years. Significantly, according to the constitution of Pakistan, a non-Muslim officer cannot be made a military chief.
