Pakistani 'Journalist' Sohrab Barkat Sparks Controversy with Hinduphobic Remarks During T20 World Cup Analysis

Islamabad: On the night of June 29, Pakistani 'journalist' Sohrab Barkat sparked controversy with a Hinduphobic tirade during his commentary on the T20 Cricket World Cup final between India and South Africa. His remarks, which mocked Hindu sentiments by invoking sacred symbols, drew criticism from various quarters.

Barkat was heard making derogatory comments about Hinduism while analyzing the match. He said, “They were supposed to lose against England. However, they performed magic and got away with it. At one point, it was confirmed that India would lose the game.” He then added, “I had even written that Gaumata could not save Indians today. Even if Lord Vishnu would have come to play directly, he could not have saved India from losing the match.”

Despite his predictions, India won the T20 World Cup final against South Africa by 7 runs. Barkat's statements were widely condemned for their offensive nature and insensitivity towards Hindu religious beliefs.

This incident is part of a troubling trend of derogatory comments made by Pakistani figures. Recently, former Pakistani cricketer Kamran Akmal faced backlash for his offensive remarks about Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh, targeting him due to his Sikh identity and suggesting that he should not be allowed to bowl after a certain time.

These incidents underscore ongoing tensions and the need for respectful dialogue in sports and media commentary.
