Pune: A Thane district court on Tuesday granted bail to 14 more accused in connection with the brutal murder of two sadhus by a mob in Palghar, Maharashtra. On the other hand, advocate Amrit Adhikari said, Additional Sessions Court (special designated court) Judge RS Gupta has rejected the bail applications of 18 other accused. The court has fixed July 30 as the next date of hearing. The charges are expected to be framed during that time. It may be recalled that a total of 201 people were arrested by the police in the Sadhu massacre, out of which 75 are the main accused. Special Public Prosecutor Satish Maneshinde appeared for the prosecution in the case while advocate PN Ojha belongs to the family of sadhus. Tell us that it has been more than a year since the incident of lynching of sadhus in Palghar. In April, Mahant Kalpavriksha Giri Maharaj, 70, and Mahant Sushil Giri Maharaj, 35, of Juna Akhara, were on their way from Mumbai to Gujarat with their driver Nilesh Telgade (30 years) to pay obeisment to their guru bhai. But on the night of April 16, 2020, hundreds of people attacked and beat them to death in a tribal dominated Gadchinchale village of Dahanu taluka of Palghar. The entire incident took place in front of some policemen present there. The accused had also attacked a driver and policemen along with the sadhus. The sadhus were taken to a hospital where they were declared brought dead after the attack. When lockdown was in place all over the country, the poor carried out this heinous act.
