New Delhi: Twitter is stuck in the case of blocking the accounts of Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Congress Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor. The Parliamentary Committee on Tuesday asked the Twitter to respond within 2 days. According to media reports, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology led by Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has directed the Secretariat to seek a written reply from the Twitter by July 1. The committee may summon an official of the micro blogging site if there is no satisfactory response from the Twitter. It may be recalled that last Friday (June 25, 2021), the Twitter handle of Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad was locked for one hour. Later, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor had also tweeted that his account was also blocked for some time. Tharoor had said at the same time that the Parliamentary Committee would seek a response from the Twitter on the issue. Tell us that the tension between the Twitter and the government has been going on for the past few days over the new IT rules of the Centre. On the one hand, the Modi government is asking micro blogging site Twitter to follow the new IT rules. On the other hand, Twitter is refusing to accept it. The government of India had also slammed the company for this. Expressing concern over the freedom of expression in a statement issued by the Twitter, the government had told the company that it was the responsibility of the Government of India to protect freedom of expression in India and not to any privately beneficial, foreign institution like Twitter.
