Kerala/Kochi: A few days ahead of Assembly elections in Kerala, PC Thomas-led Kerala Congress snapped ties with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) after not getting a single seat for contesting the upcoming polls.
PC Thomas, a former Union minister, alleged that his party was sidelined by the BJP-led alliance when the seats were allocated for the April 6 polls.
The faction led by Thomas would amalgamate with the Kerala Congress headed by senior leader PJ Joseph, which is a part of the Congress-led United Democratic Front.
The Congress leader, who served as Union minister of state for law and justice in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government, said his party contested on four seats in the 2016 Assembly polls, but this time, not a single seat was given to it.
"We haven't been given even a single seat. NDA had requested me to contest from Pala. But I told them that my personal problems - Cancer detected in my son and the treatment he needs- does not allow me to concentrate on an election," he said. "They denied us even the other seats that we had been requesting...So we are leaving the NDA," he added.
Thomas had successfully contested 2004 Lok Sabha polls from then Muvattupuzha seat on NDA ticket.
