Tamil Nadu Election: Black flag shown to CM Palaniswami in Tuticorin, 41 people arrested

Chennai: In Tamil Nadu, while statements are continuing before the polls, 41 people have been detained in Kovilpatti in Tuticorin for displaying black flags to Chief Minister Palaniswami. These people were protesting here expressing displeasure over the policies of the government. The protestors were also upset about the 10.5 percent reservation given to the Vanniyar community.

The protesters shouted anti-AIADMK slogans and swore that they would continue to topple this government. Along with this, they said that DNT certificates should also be issued to members of their community. The Palaniswami government of Tamil Nadu has recently provided an internal reservation of 10.5 percent for the Vanniyar community in the Most Backward Class (MBC) and 20 percent reservation for denotified communities.

With this reservation, members of this community will get help in admission to government jobs and educational institutions. But members of DNT communities have opposed this move of the government, saying that this step of the government is only to please the members of PMK, who are mainly Vanniyars. In Tamil Nadu, voting is to be held on April 6, while votes will be counted on May 2 along with other states.
