New Delhi: The country has seen a decrease of 15.5 percent in petrol demand and 24 percent in diesel demand during March. A 21-day lockdown has been implemented throughout the country to prevent corona from spreading. Due to this, the movement of vehicles is banned. Sales of aircraft fuel, or ATF, used in aircraft, also fell by 31 percent in March. With all business activities suspended, vehicles are banned on the roads and flights in the sky. However, the demand for domestic LPG cylinders has increased during this period. After the lockdown was announced, people started booking domestic cylinders, which increased their consumption. According to the data of the petroleum industry, the sale of petrol in March 2020 has been reduced to 15.59 lakh tonnes from 22 lakh tonnes in the same month a year ago. Similarly, the consumption of the most consumed diesel in the country has fallen by 24.2 percent to 48 lakh tonnes in March. Earlier in March 2019, 63.4 lakh tonnes of diesel sales were recorded in the country. Similarly, the sale of aircraft fuel also declined to 21.85 lakh tonnes as against 22. lakh tonnes in March last year. However, due to increase in LPG cylinder booking of people, their demand has increased by 3.1% to 22.50 lakh tonnes in March.
