Mumbai: Information about pigeon meat being sold in Mumbai city of Maharashtra has come to the fore. Pigeons were being reared on the rooftops of a residential society and then quietly sold to hotels. On the complaint of the retired army captain, the Sion police station has registered a case and started the investigation. This is the case of Shri Narottam Niwas Co-operative Housing of the Sion police station area. Retired Army Captain Haresh Gaglani (71), a resident of the society, had complained to the Police Complaints Authority about pigeons being reared on the roof of the building and being sold to some hotels in Mumbai. The authority took cognizance of the matter and ordered the Sion police station to register a case in this regard on the basis of the complaint. Thereafter, Sion Police Station registered a case against the offender and other members of the society. In fact, a person named Abhishek Sawant, who lives in the same building as retired Army Captain Haresh Gaglani, used to keep pigeons. From March 2022 to May 2022, he raised and reared the pigeons on his terrace and then sold them for meat in some hotels in Mumbai. The retired Army Captain also presented some photographs related to this case before the Police Complaints Authority. Abhishek Sawant used to take the help of his driver to sell pigeons in restaurants, bars, and hotels in Mumbai. According to Haresh Gaglani, the watchman of the society used to go to the terrace to supply water, he also informed the chairman and other members of the society. But no one paid attention to that. After this, the police also registered a case against the president-secretary and some other members of the society. Sain police station has registered a case under sections 34, 429, and 447 of the IPC. As of now, no arrest has been made in this case yet.
