IPL 2021: Players auction will be on February 18 in Chennai

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the auction date ahead of the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The players for IPL 2021 will be auctioned on February 18. The auctions will be held in Chennai itself. More importantly, the auction will take place just after the final day of the second Test between India and England in Chennai.

The second Test between India and England will be played between February 13 and 17. This will be the last small auction before the mega auction in 2022. All franchises will then be allowed to retain only 3 players for the next edition and the mega auction will then purchase the players. The fate of several star players will be at stake this time in the auction for the new season.

Recently, a number of players were released on behalf of all 8 franchises, including some big names. Harbhajan Singh, former Kings XI Punjab player Glenn Maxwell, former Rajasthan Royals captain Steve Smith, and Royal Challengers Bangalore's Australian batsman Aaron James Finch is among the main names released by Chennai Super Kings.
