NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra for the first position in Doha Diamond League. Takng to Twitter Prime Minister wrote: "First event of the year and first position! With the World lead throw of 88.67m, Neerajchopra1 shines at the Doha Diamond League. Congratulations ! Best wishes for the endeavours ahead." Olympic champion in the javelin throw at Tokyo 2020, Neeraj, began his campaign by winning the Doha Diamond League 2023 on Friday at the Qatar Sports Club with a record-breaking effort of 88.67 metres. Chopra, who is renowned for his fast starts, came very close to breaking the 89.94-meter national javelin record on his first throw. Silver medalist from the Tokyo Olympics, Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic, wasn't far behind and shot a season-high 88.63m on his second attempt. The Indian javelin ace improved on his initial throw with a second effort of 86.04 metres. Neeraj Chopra fouled his fourth throw after it measured 85.47 metres. His last two throws were 84.37 and 86.52 metres in length.
