NEW DELHI: India Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, May 22, held talks with his Papua New Guinea Prime Minster James Marape on ways to augment cooperation in commerce, technology, healthcare and climate change addressing. Narendra Modi arrived in Papua New Guinea on his second leg of a three-nation trip after attending G7 Summit in Japan's Hiroshima. Taking to Twitter today morning, P M Modi said: Prime Minister James Marape and I had very productive discussions, covering the full range of bilateral ties between India and Papua New Guinea. We talked about how to increase collaboration in business, technology, healthcare, and combating climate change. The Prime Minister's Office stated in another tweet: "PM Narendra Modi had a bilateral meeting with PM Marape. The leaders talked about various methods to deepen ties between India and Papua New Guinea. After meeting Bob Dadae, the governor-general of Papua New Guinea, earlier in the day, Modi said: "Had a lovely meeting with Governor General, Sir Bob Dadae. We discussed how to strengthen bilateral ties between our countries in several sectors. For the FIPIC III Summit, the Prime Minister is in Papua New Guinea. Speaking on the meeting's specifics, Arindan Bagchi of the Ministry of External Affairs stated: "Synergizing India-Papua New Guinea relations. PM Modi and PM James Marape had a successful bilateral meeting. PM Modi thanked PM Marape for helping to co-host the FIPIC III Summit in Port Moresby. "Discussions included fostering collaboration across trade and investment sectors, health, capacity and skill development, and IT. Climate change issues and fostering bonds amongst individuals were also covered. A Tok Pisin translation of the Tamil classic "Thirukkural" was also made public by Modi and Marape. PM James Marape and I had the privilege of launching the Thirukkural in Tok Pisin in Papua New Guinea. In a series of tweets, Modi referred to Thirukkural as an iconic text that offers insightful information on a variety of topics. "I would like to thank Mrs. Subha Sasindran and Sasindran Muthuvel, the governor of the West New Britain Province, for their work translating the Thirukkural into Tok Pisin. Subha Sasindran is a renowned linguist, and Governor Sasindran attended school in Tamil, the official stated. "Indian diaspora keeping alive connect with the motherland!," the MEA official exclaimed. A translation of the Tamil classic "Thirukkural" into the Tok Pisin language of Papua New Guinea was unveiled by PM Narendra Modi and PM James Marape. The book, which was co-written by the governor of West New Britain Province and Subha Sasindran, "brings Indian thought and culture closer to the people of Papua New Guinea." Modi will travel to Sydney at the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese following his visit to Papua New Guinea.
