PM Modi calls for people of Karnataka to vote in large numbers

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, May 10, urged the people of Karnataka to vote in large numbers and enrich the festival of democracy as voting for one Lok Sabha seat in Punjab and four assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and Meghalaya commenced.

The counting of votes for the bypolls will also take place along with Karnataka on May 13.

Taking to Twitter PM Modi wrote: "There are by-polls taking place for a Parliamentary seat in Punjab and for Assembly seats in Meghalaya, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh. Urging voters in those constituencies to exercise their franchise in large numbers," PM Modi tweeted.

Bypolls are going on in the assembly constituencies of Swar and Chhanbey in Rampur in Uttar Pradesh. Voting for the bypoll began in the assembly constituencies of the Jharsuguda in Odisha and Sohiong in Meghalaya.

While voting will also take place on Wednesday for the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat. The death of Congressman Santokh Singh Chaudhary left the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat vacant.

In January of this year, Chaudhary passed away following a heart attack while participating in party leader Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra between the cities of Phillaur and Goraya.

AAP, BJP, Congress, and Shiromani Akali Dal are all anticipated to engage in a fierce contest for the seat. Prior to the assembly elections that were held in the rest of the state on February 27, a byelection in Meghalaya was required due to the passing of UDP candidate HDR Lyngdoh.
