PM Modi expresses grief over Mumbai building accident, Rs 2 lakh to be given to kin of deceased

New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the loss of lives due to building collapse in Mumbai's Malad West and announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased. So far, 11 persons have been killed and 7 injured in the accident which took place late on Wednesday night. 8 children were among the dead. A BMC official said, the accident took place at around 11.15 pm on Wednesday at The New Collector Compound on Abdul Hamid Road in Malwani area.

 

 

The Prime Minister's Office wrote on Twitter prime minister Modi's statement, "My thoughts are with the bereaved family members at this time of grief. I wish the injured persons a speedy recovery". A compensation of Rs 2 lakh will be given to the next of kin of the deceased from the Prime Minister's National Disaster Relief Fund. 50,000/- will be provided to the injured persons.

Maharashtra Minister Aslam Sheikh said that rs 5 lakh will be given as compensation to the next of kin of the deceased in the building collapse incident. Mumbai Additional Commissioner of Police Dilip Sawant said that 18 people have been rescued since Wednesday night. Police will investigate the incident and legal action will be taken against the culprits. According to PTI, police said the building was constructed illegally and the contractor is now being questioned.
