PM Modi praises Assam Govt's rhino conservation efforts

PM Narendra Modi said on Sunday that, due to the efforts of the Assam government, a campaign against rhino poaching was initiated in the last seven years, and that rhino hunting in the state is now steadily declining.

"The rhinos, which are revered in Assamese culture, also had to deal with hardships. Poachers killed 37 rhinos in 2013 and 32 rhinos in 2014. To address this issue, the Assam government has spearheaded a massive anti-rhino poaching campaign over the last seven years "While addressing to the country on 'Mann ki Baat,' Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked.

On World Rhino Day last year, on September 22, more than 2400 horns seized from smugglers were burned, according to the Prime Minister. He stated, "This was a stern message to the poachers." According to Prime Minister Modi, such measures have resulted in a steady drop in rhino hunting in Assam. "Whereas 37 rhinos were killed in 2013, two rhinoceros were slaughtered in 2020, and only one in 2021. I admire the people of Assam's determination to conserve the rhinoceros " He added.
