PM Modi to release Rs.16,000 Cr to farmers’ accounts on Monday

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch subsidised urea bags under a single brand 'Bharat' as part of the "One Nation, One Fertilizer" initiative, at a two-day event beginning on October 17 in the natinal capital and introduce subsidised urea bags under the single brand "Bharat."

As part of the PM-KISAN scheme, which aims to give them direct support of Rs 6,000 yearly, Modi will also electronically transfer Rs 16,000 crores to the bank accounts of over 8.5 crore farmers at the event, which will be hosted at the Mela venue in the Pusa complex.

At the "PM Kisan Samman Sammelan 2022" event, which is put on by the Ministries of Agriculture and Fertilizer jointly, the PM will also launch the international weekly fertiliser e-magazine "Indian Edge" and open an exhibition and colloquium for agri-startups.

The nation's subsidised soil nutrients, including urea, di-ammonium phosphate (DAP), muriate of potash (MoP), and NPK, would all be marketed under the single brand "Bharat," said the Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, who gave a press conference.

During the ceremony, the PM will introduce "Bharat urea bags," for which the government is requiring businesses to offer subsidised fertilisers under the "Bharat" brand, he said. This is being done as part of the Fertilizer and Chemicals Ministry's "One Nation, One Fertilizer" (ONOF) programme, which aims to stop the flow of fertilisers across borders and decrease hefty freight subsidies, he said.

At the ceremony, the PM will also also open 600 PM Kisan Samruddhi Kendras (PM-KSK), which will serve as one-stop shops for the farmers and offer a variety of services.

Currently, the retail stores that sell fertiliser in the nation are either run by companies, cooperatives, or sell to private dealers. These retail locations will now become PM-KSK.

On this occasion, the PM would also distribute the 12th installment of Rs 16,000 crore to nearly 8.5 crore farmers who are beneficiaries of the agricultural ministry's Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) programme. A bonus of Rs 6,000 per year in three equal installments of Rs 2,000 each is given to qualified farmers under the PM-KISAN, which was introduced in February 2019, every four months. Also during the event, the PM will open the "Agri Startup Conclave and Exhibition," in which 1,500 agri-startups are anticipated to attend and hold technical seminars. On the first day, almost 300 entrepreneurs will present their innovative solutions for post-harvest and value addition, mechanisation for small farmers, and agri-logistics.

The platform would make it easier for startups to communicate with corporations, farmer-producer organisations, and agro-professionals.

MOre than crore farmers are anticipated to attend virtually from all over the nation. Along with Tomar, other prominent officials attending the event include Union Minister of State for Fertilizers and Chemicals Bhagwanth Khuba, Union Minister of State for Agriculture Kailash Choudhary, and Union Minister of State for Fertilizers and Chemicals Shobha Karandhlaje.
