'Govt is committed for safe return of all Indians,' PM Modi meeting on Afghanistan issue

New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a cabinet committee meeting on security matters on the situation arising after the Taliban captured power in Afghanistan. According to media reports, the meeting was attended by PM Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, India's Ambassador to Afghanistan R Tandon among others.

However, no further details have been revealed about the issues discussed in the meeting. It is being told in some media reports that during this time there has been a discussion on how to rescue the Indians trapped in Afghanistan. Earlier, an Indian Air Force aircraft carrying 120 people including the Indian Ambassador in Kabul and embassy personnel arrived in India from Afghanistan today.

According to reports, the Ministry of External Affairs has said, "India is committed to the efficient return of all Indians from Afghanistan. As soon as commercial flights are restored from Kabul airport, arrangements will be made to bring back other Indians trapped there.'' PM Narendra Modi is closely monitoring the entire development. He has also interacted with officials on the situation of Indians in Afghanistan. PM Modi has directed that proper arrangements be made to provide food to all those returning to the country.
