PM Modi wishes nation on Guru Nanak Dev's 550th birth anniversary

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the countrymen on the occasion of 550th Prakash Parv of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj, the first Guru of Sikhism. PM Modi took to Twitter and wrote, "Today, on the very special occasion of the 550th Prakash Parv of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, my greetings to everyone. This is a day to rededicate ourselves to fulfilling Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s dream of a just, inclusive and harmonious society."

The birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev is celebrated as Prakash Parv, which is on 12 November this year. Guru Nanak was born on the full moon of Kartik month Shukla Paksha in 1526 AD. This is the reason that every year full moon day of Kartik month is celebrated as Prakash Parv. Guru Nanak Dev Ji was not only a saint but also a philosopher, social reformer, thinker, poet and country lover.

It is said that since childhood, Nanak Sahib's heart was not found in worldly pursuits. His school was also missed at the age of eight. As a child, due to more attachment towards God, people started considering him as a divine man. Devotees celebrating the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Prakash Parv, organize a place-langar, including gurdwaras, on this occasion.
