NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will speak at the Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Organization (NIIO) seminar "Swavlamban." today (July 18) at 4:30 pm at Dr Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi.

A crucial component of Aatmanirbhar Bharat is attaining self-reliance in the Defence Sector, the Prime Minister's Office informed today highlighting the details of the event.

In order to advance this endeavor, the Prime Minister will introduce "SPRINT Challenges" (Supporting Pole-Vaulting in R & D through iDEX, NIIO and TDAC) during the programme, which are designed to promote the Indian Navy to use more homegrown technology.

NIIO and the Defense Innovation Organisation (DIO) are working together to introduce at least 75 new indigenous technology and products into the Indian Navy as part of the "Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav." The name of this joint endeavour is SPRINT.

In order to achieve self-reliance in the defence industry, the seminar aims to involve Indian academia and industry. The two-day Seminar (18-19 July) will give leaders from business, academia, services, and government a forum to collaborate on ideas and formulate suggestions for the defence sector. There will be sessions on innovation, indigenization, armament, and aviation.

According to the government's SAGAR vision, outreach to the Indian Ocean Region will take place on the Seminar's second day (Security and Growth for All in the Region).
