PM to lay foundation stone for Redevelopment of over 500 Railway Stations

NEW DELHI:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to mark a historic milestone on August 6 as he lays the foundation stone for the redevelopment of an impressive 508 railway stations all across the nation. Through video conferencing, he will initiate this transformative initiative, emphasizing the importance of modernization and improvement in India's railway infrastructure.

These 508 stations are beautifully distributed across 27 states and union territories, with significant numbers in regions like Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, Bihar, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Odisha, Punjab, Gujarat, Telangana, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, and Karnataka.

To implement this grand plan, a sum of Rs 24,470 crore will be allocated, ensuring that passengers are provided with state-of-the-art amenities and facilities. The focus is on a well-designed traffic circulation system and inter-modal integration. Additionally, passengers will benefit from clear and effective signage for easy guidance within the stations. Furthermore, the design of these station buildings will be heavily influenced by the local culture, heritage, and architecture, providing a unique and culturally resonant experience.

Modi's vision of providing world-class amenities at railway stations has led to the launch of the 'Amrit Bharat Station Scheme,' which aims to redevelop 1,309 stations in total. The current initiative of redeveloping 508 stations is a part of this larger scheme, and the cost for this phase is estimated to be over Rs 24,470 crore.

The redeveloped stations will be transformed into vibrant 'City Centres,' fostering integration and development on both sides of the city. This approach aligns with a holistic vision of overall urban development centered around the railway station, thereby ensuring a well-connected and prosperous urban landscape.

In summary, the foundation stone laying event by the Prime Minister sets forth a momentous and transformative journey to enhance the railway experience for millions of people across India. The push for modernization and the celebration of local culture through design will create railway stations that truly embody the spirit of a new India.
