New Delhi: In a high-profile assembly held on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over discussions with top ministers to strategize the government's approach during the ongoing Monsoon session in Parliament. Notably, the participants included influential figures such as Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Pralhad Joshi, Piyush Goyal, Anurag Singh Thakur, Nitin Gadkari, Nirmala Sitharaman, and Arjun Ram Meghwal.

Simultaneously, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, will be leading a delegation of MPs from I.N.D.I.A to the Rashtrapati Bhavan for a significant meeting with President Droupadi Murmu. During this meeting, the delegation aims to present a memorandum concerning the critical situation in Manipur to the President. Speaking to reporters ahead of the visit, Kharge expressed that the 21-member delegation is dedicated to bringing the Manipur situation to the President's attention.

Scheduled at 11.30 am, the meeting will convene after the Parliament reconvenes. As the Lok Sabha resumes its session on Wednesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to introduce The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, for consideration and passage.

In an interesting development, Biju Janata Dal MP Sasmit Patra declared that his party will lend support to the government on the Delhi Services Bill, replacing the Centre's previous Ordinance. This declaration dealt a blow to the united Opposition's efforts to form a majority against the Bill in the Rajya Sabha. Reacting to the situation, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram criticized both the BJD and YSRCP for their support towards the Centre over the Bill. In a tweet, Chidambaram expressed his inability to understand the merit they found in the proposed legislation.

It's worth noting that the contentious Bill was introduced in the Lower House by Union Minister for State for Home, Nityanand Rai, on Tuesday. This Bill aims to empower the Central Government to formulate rules regarding the affairs of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi, encompassing the functions, terms, and other conditions of service for officers and employees.

The backdrop of this Bill lies in the promulgation of the Ordinance by the Centre on May 19, granting it control over services in Delhi. This decision was taken following a ruling by the Supreme Court that vested the power to control services in the national capital with the AAP government.
