Police arrested 4 people for extortion

Gurugram: In a Shocking incident, three men were arrested in Gurugram for allegedly trying to extort Rs 10 lakh from a man. The incident took place in Palam Vihar. The accused were allegedly acquainted with the victim. The accused were identified as Mandeep, Narender alias Mota and Rupinder. The victim Anuj Gupta is a residence of the Block C of Palam Vihar. Since April 14, the victim had been receiving phone calls from two unknown mobile numbers. The victim was allegedly being asked to pay Rs 10 lakh in the phone calls.

As stated in his complaint, the aggrieved alleged that since he did not recognize the voices of the callers, he kept ignoring them. It was only after a week of continuous calls that he approached the police and filed a complaint. The Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Shamsher Singh said that when they tracked the two phone numbers, they found out that the numbers were operational in close proximity to the victim's house. 

The police also deployed teams near the victim's residence. The accused were arrested on the outskirts of the Palam Vihar. The police lodged a case under Section 384 for extortion at the Palam Vihar police station. 

In a similar incident, a member of the notorious Kaushal gang allegedly threatened an employee and asked him to pay Rs 25 lakh, on March 27. The victim had allegedly received two phone calls to pay the money and warned him of dire consequences. The accused was booked under Section 386 (extortion) and Section (506) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
