Kanpur: Twelve coaches of the Howrah-New Delhi Poorva Express derailed near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh early on Saturday, injuring at least 14 people, railway officials said. Coaches of the train traveling from Prayagraj to Delhi derailed at about 1 AM near Rooma village, about 15 kilometers from Kanpur. Visuals from the spot show the damaged coaches. About 15 ambulances were at the spot to take injured passengers to the hospital. also read: Police arrested a man for offensive behavior towards a woman The incident took place when the train (12303) was on its way from Howrah to New Delhi near Ruma industrial estate in Ruma village. Indian Railways spokesperson Smita Vats Sharma told ANI that an "Accident Relief Train" and medical equipment have been sent to the accident site. The main route has been impacted due to the derailment. Kanpur DM Vijay Vishwas Pant told media persons that buses were being arranged to take passengers to Kanpur Central. The police are supervising rescue operations. A 45-member team from the National Disaster Response Force is also at the spot. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team has reached the spot and rescue operation is under way. "Rescue operation is underway. No casualties have been reported till now. Buses are being arranged to take passengers to Kanpur Central.
