Pope Francis calls for help for Ukraine, condemns warmongers

Rome: On Sunday, Pope Francis called for humanitarian corridors to help refugees fleeing Ukraine and warned that those who wage war should not believe that God is on their side.

Francis said his "heart is broken" and advised a day of prayer and fasting for peace on Wednesday as several in his audience hoisted enormous Ukrainian flags in St. Peter's Square. "Those who start wars lose sight of humanity. It is not a result of the people "he exclaimed, his voice filled with zeal.

"They don't think about people's daily lives, instead prioritising party interests and trusting in the diabolical and perverse logic of weapons, which is the furthest thing from God's thinking." Images of elderly people seeking sanctuary and moms fleeing with their children moved the Pope.

"They are brothers and sisters for whom we must build humanitarian corridors as soon as possible. It is necessary to welcome them "he stated "May the weapons come to a halt. God is on the side of the peacemakers, not the violent... The actual victims are the people, who pay the price for war's folly with their own blood."
