Modi govt to build green corridor to fight drone attack

New Delhi: The Modi government at the Centre is going to bring a detailed law to regulate drone flights in the country following a drone attack on an Air Force station in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The Centre today released an updated draft of Drone Rules 2021. The draft has been asked for feedback from the general public.

According to a draft released by the aviation ministry, the government has reduced several approvals for flying drones. According to this draft, the government wants to expand drone flight in the country. So that's where the government is bringing facilities like geo-fencing, real-time tracking for security. The government has provided relief from approvals on unique authorization number, unique prototype identification number, certificate of formation, maintenance certificate, import clearance, approval of current drone, operator permits, authorization of R&D organization, student remote pilot license, remote pilot instructor authorization, drone port authorization.

The number of forms for drone licences has been reduced from 25 to 6. The yellow zone has now been reduced from 45 kilometres to 12 kilometres within the vicinity of airports. That is, drones can now be flown in more areas around the airport. Flight permission up to 400 feet in green areas and up to 200 feet in an area between 8 and 12 km from the airport circumference will not be required. The coverage of drones has been increased from 300 kg to 500 kg. It will also include drone taxis.
